- International Certification Quality Assurance Standard recognizes the quality of the SATA Group Airlines Carbon Compensation Program.
The SATA Group Airlines (Azores Airlines and SATA Air Açores) have just achieved the certificate that attests to the quality of their carbon offset program.
The QAS (Quality Assurance Standard) certificate ensures that the Voluntary Carbon Compensation Program (SATA ICOP) program complies with international best practices and meets the requirements in force.
The achievement certifies that the procedures adopted by the airlines ensure that the voluntary donations offered by more than eight thousand passengers who travelled in the airlines of the SATA Group are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SATA ICOP (Carbon Offset Program) is a program promoted by IATA (International Air Transport Association), which SATA companies have joined and has contributed to reducing the impact of aviation carbon emissions through cooperation in sustainable development projects in different regions.
With this initiative in place, the SATA Group is taking another step towards achieving sustainable business development. In addition to the renewal of the fleet of Azores Airlines, which is noteworthy for being the one that allows a more significant volume of reduction in CO2 emissions produced, the voluntary carbon offsetting program is an initiative that has also contributed to the consolidation of the environmental sustainability objectives that the Azorean group companies make to achieve.
SATA Group Airlines were also pioneers in Portugal in the IEnvA certification, a program developed by IATA that enhances the change of procedures to be implemented in all areas of companies and that ensures the adoption of robust environmental practices and specifically designed for the sector to reduce the impact of the industry on the environment. They were also initial underwriters of the Azores Archipelago Sustainability Booklet, which defines a set of annual goals to be achieved by the associated companies, whose objectives are also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
