1.2. Regulation
  • Eligibility
    Service available to all passengers who have a ticket for a flight operated by SATA Azores Airlines.

  • Validity period
    Available from 360 days to 48 hours before the flight.

  • Flights Restriction
    Valid on SATA Azores Airlines scheduled flights.

  • Changes
    If you want to change your seat or your flight, a new seat will have to be purchased.

  • Refunds
    The Carrier reserves the right to allocate or re-allocate seats at any time, even after boarding the aircraft. This may be necessary for operational or safety reasons, such as re-accommodating children or passengers with special needs with their families or companions, aircraft changes, or anything else that may prove necessary.

    The following situations will be eligible for a pre-seat refund:

    • When the passenger upgraded to Comfort class on the same flight.
    • When an operational change by the airline results in a re-accommodation (such as a change of aircraft with a different cabin or a flight cancellation) and:
      • the passenger isn't re-accommodated in a seat with the same features as the previously purchased (window, aisle, etc.);
      • the passenger is traveling with others with the same booking code, and they have been re-accommodated in separate seats;
      • the passenger is reaccommodated in a seat located in another area of the aircraft*.

        * Our cabins are divided into different areas delimited by emergency exits.

    If you purchase a seat reservation in advance and the flight is canceled or if we make seat changes, we will refund the amount paid for the seat reservation if the desired category is not available. However, if your fare includes the choice of a seat and the reservation of this seat is not paid for separately, as it is an integral part of the fare, refunds will be made for the published amounts paid for booking a seat.

1.3 Emergency exit seats

SATA Azores Airlines has the right to determine whether a passenger meets the requirements to sit in a seat near the emergency exit. The passenger must be physically capable, over 16 years old, and speak English. If the passenger does not meet the requirements, he will be allocated an alternative seat, and the amount paid will not be refunded.

These seats are restricted and, as such, are not permitted in the following cases:

  • Passengers who, due to their stature, physical constitution, or age, have difficulties in moving quickly and efficiently so as not to obstruct the gangway or the emergency exit and are not able to assist the crew and other passengers in situations of the evacuation of the aircraft;
  • Passengers with reduced mobility;
  • Passengers requiring special assistance;
  • Passengers under the age of 16;
  • Unaccompanied minors;
  • Pregnant women;
  • Passengers carrying special items in the cabin (animals, bulky items, etc.).

According to the International Civil Aviation Regulations, to occupy a seat at an emergency exit, you must comply with the instructions given by the crew on its operation, and you must:

  • Be in good physical condition;
  • Have good hearing;
  • Have good comprehension, leadership, and voice projection;
  • Not be pregnant;
  • Not need a seat belt extension;
  • Not accompanied by a baby, child, or animal;
  • Pack all carry-on baggage and personal belongings in the overhead luggage compartment.

1.4. Special transport

Animal transport
If you are carrying your pet with you in the cabin, you should book your seat next to a window in the places intended for animal transport. Please note that you are not allowed to book your seat in the emergency exit rows as well as in the more comfortable rows.

Reduced mobility
If you need assistance due to your mobility, the seat to be selected will depend on the type of assistance you require and according to your mobility:

  • If you need a wheelchair on the way to/from the stairway or access sleeve to the airplane, but you can go up and down the stairs and walk to/from your seat on board without assistance (WCHR) – you should not select emergency exit seats.
  • If you need a wheelchair on the way to/from the stairway or access sleeve to the airplane and you need to be carried up and down the stairs, but you can walk to/from your seat on board without assistance (WCHS) – you must select an aisle seat, for safety reasons on board.
  • If you need a wheelchair on the way to/from the stairway or access sleeve to the airplane, you need to be carried up and down the stairs, and also to/from your seat on board (WCHC) – you must select an aisle seat, for safety reasons on board.

The airline may allocate the purchased seat, due to operational reasons or events not within the airline’s control, keeping its features (e.g., window, aisle, or middle). If the purchased seat’s features cannot be granted, the amount paid will be refunded.
