In 2021, SATA Group presented a very positive growth in demand, an unexpected behaviour considering the pandemic's effects in the air transportation sector.
Given the previous year's record, the airlines would expect to register the same or slightly higher result in terms of transported passengers.
But the one million passenger milestone ended up being achieved sooner than expected. On July 31, 2022, SATA Group reached the mark of 1 million passengers transported. In short, ten weeks earlier than in the year of 2021 and days earlier than in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
Comparing with the data recorded on July 31, 2019, and 2021, there is an increase of 3% in the number of passengers transported compared to the year of 2019, and of 83% if compared to the same period of 2021.
As an informative note, we remind that SATA Air Açores registered 1 million passengers in 1977. Considering that the airline's flights began in 1947, it took thirty years to reach the same milestone.
